STYLE, ART, CUISINE: OH MY!

Artfully designed from floor to ceiling, Thompson Dallas delivers the WOW! from the moment you arrive

There is a swanky new hotel in downtown Dallas that is not to be missed! Thompson Dallas is located in The National, a beautifully restored and revamped National Bank Tower which debuted in 1965 as the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. The exterior design resembles a banker’s pinstriped suit with alternating columns of dark glass and white marble (the stone was mined from the same Greek quarry used for the Parthenon). Thompson Dallas has a gorgeous aesthetic complimented by an impressive art collection. Before or after a visit to the nearby Dallas Museum of Art, be sure to ask the concierge for a self-guided tour of the works on display.

A towering kinetic sculpture of corten steel by Brazilian artist, Raul Mourao, nicely balances the expanse of high-polish marble

Sleeping Arrangements

There are 219 rooms and 52 suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, mid-century modern design, bespoke furnishings, and stylish bathrooms. In my deluxe king, I enjoyed city views, hardwood and tile flooring, and a luxurious bed dressed in high-thread count linens. The bathroom included a well-lit vanity, large walk-in shower, and separate commode closet. For guests looking for a deep soaking tub, double square footage, a second bathroom, or a separate living room with fireplace, the portfolio of suites has it all.

Wine and Dine

Thompson hotels are known for world-class culinary and nightlife offerings and the Dallas property does not disappoint. Nine at The National is a gorgeous remake of the original bank administration offices and is simultaneously light and rich in design with loads of natural light from the windows overlooking the pool deck. It is perfect for a leisurely breakfast, lunch, or weekend brunch. Catbird is a jewel box restaurant with an expansive terrace for happy hour, dinner, or late night food and drinks. Enjoy some of the best DJ talent in the city Thursday through Saturday nights. On the 49th floor is Monarch, the wood-fired modern Italian restaurant imagined by 2-star Michelin Chef Danny Grant. The menu includes handmade pastas, steaks, and fresh seafood prepared in a light and fresh style. The top floor is home to Kessaku, an intimate cocktail, sake and sushi lounge with 360 degree views from the historic observation deck. Anchored by Chef Hari Chan, the menu focuses on elegant yet simple sashimi, nigiri, and rolls plus an exceptional collection of sake and Japanese whiskey.

Wellness Retreat

The hotel boasts an impressive number of options for soothing your mind and body. From the luxurious resort-style pool with cabanas and bar to the 24-hour fitness center with top-tier equipment for Pilates, Crossfit, spin and more. There is also a full service spa offering massage, facials, hot and cold plunge pools, steam and sauna, nail service, and a blow dry bar. Finally, for those who travel with a furry friend, there is a doggy daycare, outdoor pet park, grooming services, and private sitting.
